For this Month, we’ll be quickly going over a staple of the act database: the Global Toolbar. This is the toolbar at the top right of any main menu or view in Act, from Contacts all the way down to Reports. This bar gives you quick access to the fundamental features of Act!, including writing E-mails, scheduling activities, creating new contacts/companies/groups, etc. Learn more about it in this month’s blog.

The Global Toolbar is available anywhere in your Act! Database, and where you are changes where the toolbar links to. While in the contacts view, the Global Toolbar will automatically link new Histories, Activities, etc. to whatever Contact you have open. In the company view, it will link to the company selected; in groups, it will link to the selected group. When in menus/views with nothing to link to specifically, such as opportunities or lists, anything you create will have the field empty, allowing you to link it to whoever you want.

First on the Global Toolbar is the E-Mail link, which will open up your Email application, like Outlook, and draft an email to whatever contact you have selected. Next on the Toolbar you have buttons to record new Histories or Notes for whatever contact, company, or group you’re currently at. After those, you have To-Do, Meeting, and Call, which clicking on starts to schedule their respective activity. Of course, from this menu you can also use the drop down to change it to any type of activity you would like.

You also have the New button, which on its own creates a new Contact. However, you also have a drop-down list, giving you more options. You can create new Groups, Companies, Opportunities, Schedule more Activities. You can also write a new Letter, Email, or Document form this drop down as well. All this is accessible anywhere in Act!, improving your workflow efficiency.
